Atherosclerosis of the neck - Carotid Artery (Grant #29296)
Atherosclerosis of the neck or hardening of the carotid artery in the neck (carotid stenosis) can be caused by too much LDL or “bad” cholesterol, smoking, high blood pressure or diabetes.
The purpose of this study is to determine the safety and effectiveness of an investigational medication to reduce arterial plaque in subjects with carotid atherosclerosis. A state of the art 3T MRI scan will be provided to participants that qualify.
This is approximately 6 months long with 11 visits.
Entry Qualifications:
- * Be between 18-75 years of age
- * Must be diagnosed with 16-79% carotid stenosis by an ultrasound (if not one may be provided)
All qualifying participants will receive study visits, 3T MRI, ultrasound (if needed), study medication, at no charge. There will also be a nominal reimbursement for a patients time and travel costs.
